GAL Verde Irpinia is the result of a fusion among three entities that have operated on the territory of Irpinia: GAL CISLI, GAL Terminio-Cervialto, GAL Ufita.
GAL, which stands for Local Action Group, is formed by private and public figures, representatives from the institutional, and social and economical parts (e.g. local institutions, syndicates, no profit association). They work altogether for LEADER ("Liaisons Entre Actions de Developpement de l'Economie Rurale"), a community initiative project which aims at programming actions which will incentivise the development of rural areas (with low density of population, low diffusion of services). The project is co-funded by the European Union.
Through the redaction and the implementation of Local Plans of Development (PSL), the project's purpose is to "read" the environment from a "sustainable development" point of view. This will mean increasing the area's values and diffuse the sustainable development issue either within the area where the project is running, either towards external areas reachable through communications flows and already existent partners.
LEADER coordinates all the environmental and cultural initiatives, either in plans and in action and works for the promotion of the territory,
